last blog, sad day
For my last blog I decided to write about the new health care bill. This bill will affect college students directly. There are many reasons of why this bill is good for college students. Currently 67% of college students are covered by their parents' employee sponsored insurance. With this new bill going into effect, this percentage will increase significantly. This is because more parents will have health insurance from the increased population coverage. Medical needs of those college age students will be covered by their parent’s policies. Students will now be able to stay on their parents insurance until age 26, and they don’t have to be enrolled at all times. Students can work at their own pace and take time off if need be. This will come to a relief to many seniors in college who are getting ready to graduate knowing that finding a job is very tough in this economy, especially ones that provide good enough health insurance. By college students having insurance / better insurance this will also keep the college campuses more healthy.

I am about to turn in my other four page paper and my three page paper, leaving me with only my two page paper left. My four page paper is on caffeine and my three is on SAT/ACT. For my four page paper it got passed quicker than any other paper. I think this is because before I turned it in to go through endorsement groups I had my mom and roommate look it over for any errors. I figured since I don’t have much time to make it to the labs this would be the next best thing. They helped me with a lot of the local issues (grammar.) I also think that by showing other people your paper and talking about it with them if gives you new ideas and new ways of doing things. I thought I was going to do my two page paper on tanning but I am beginning to rethink that. I kind of think it would be neat to write it on some random argument that I have in my head and back it up well. But I’m not sure and I need to schedule a conference, it’s just so hard with softball and never being here. I will have big weight lifted off my shoulders though when I get these four papers turned in and off my back!!

For my PSY class we are learning about child development. There is many ways for toddlers to learn new words I think that. Joint attention is a great way for your toddler to learn new words. When your toddler picks up an object, looks, or touches and object – label it for them. For example if your toddler is staring at a pen pick it up and say “pen, this is a pen.” While labeling things for your child make sure you are looking at the object and not something else while labeling it – this confuses toddlers. Viewing television (at moderation) is also a good way to learn new words. Watching shows like Sesame Street improves child’s vocabulary. Sesame Street helps because it involves the child in language actives to learn words. At the beginning of ten months an infant will point, touch, or make noise. If a baby is pointing at a toy they want usually mothers (and other people) translate the baby’s words for them, this aids the way for learning new words. After the first birthday child learn how to begin conversations with adults. Toddler’s first conversations are about themselves, it then expands to include objects in the environment. After that the conversations have more theoretical ideas in them. Preschool children give more elaborate messages to the listeners who lack critical information.

I just got my grade back from my first paper; I must say I thought I did better than that. At least before our portfolio is due I will have time for more revision. Right now I am working on two papers at once. It is not only difficult but annoying. Because it is like twice the work and I have to switch from topic to topic. But this way if I get sick of writing on one I can go to the other. I am writing about ACT/SAT’s … they really bother me and I think that we should get rid of them! So I thought this topic would be great from a short three page paper. My other four paper I decided to make it on caffeine, I am also doing a project over caffeine so I thought writing about it would have me study the information. Also I drink pop everyday and get caffeine headaches if I don’t have it in the morning. So it is also interesting learning about what it does to my body. I think I will make my two page paper on the good effects of tanning. One struggle I have is that I have already missed 3 or 4 classes due to softball this makes it difficult to get my paper read. And also read other peoples paper. I wish I did not have to miss so much for softball. Other than that the writing has been going well.

We just finished our first paper and I now I am on to thinking of new topics for my next argument paper. One topic I wanted to look into was the new healthcare reform that was just passed. So I researched BOTH sides to see what I agreed with. The positives are as follows: It makes insurance more affordable by providing the largest middle class tax cut for health care in history. This helps 32 million Americans afford health care who do not get it today. Under the plan, 95% of Americans will be insured. It prevents insurance industry abuses and denial of care. On the opposite side: government has control of where we go to the doctor at. It will cost the country over one trillion dollars. Premiums will rise. I personally think that passing the healthcare bill is a bad idea. I will have to research it more though. I want to be able to decide where I go to the doctor at. If I get cancer or something like that I want to be able to choose the best doctor available not have one “assigned” to me.

first paper
Well I just got done writing my first augment paper. For this paper was really hard getting started on. As Facebook and the internet grows so does the information on these topics, there were many facts that could make my opinion go either way. I had to then organize that information and decided what stance I wanted to take. After all that was said and done I wrote away, that was the easy part getting my thoughts on paper, I then need to organize my paper , add a thesis and conclusion. The revision process was a long one; I revised once before I took it to the endorsement groups and then 3 times after that! Each new group and something new to say or something to add. This really helped my paper developed and “be all it could be.” I hope that I helped people out like they helped me out. The group that helped me out the most was the grammar group, I had to get it checked a couple of time. For my next paper I will be taking it to the writing lab, I think I can help me a lot on that part and developing my paragraphs better. For my next paper I also want to have more sources I had about five this last paper but the stronger you back up your argument the more it makes people think. The whole point of my paper is not to make someone switch their mind, because I am very stubborn and I know that by me reading one paper isn’t going to make me switch my mind. All I am trying to do is make people think about my argument.

I wrote my paper on Facebook and the work world. But there are also many reason of why outside of work it is dangerous. There are three major threats for social networking sites such as Facebook. One being identity theft which is the crime of stealing someone's personal, identifying information for the purpose of using that information fraudulently. This includes Social Security Numbers, credit card and banking account numbers, usernames, passwords, and patient records. The crime of identity theft is most often committed by organized crime. Secondly, Facebook adds threats to personal safety such as stalking or threatening either online or in real life. It is estimated that 1.4 million Americans are stalked each year. Thirdly, with Facebook there social risks through participating in minority groups or stigmatized groups. Facebook gives you the opportunity to add/join groups and even make them. The problem with this is that all groups are not tasteful and sometimes demeaning. Hate groups and what not can also get you fired from work or you can be considered a bully. I don’t want people to think that I am anit-Facebook. I actually have a Facebook and wouldn’t get rid of it. I am just trying to spread awareness to people and to use it safe. Facebook is a great way to connect people with each other; I guess you just have to be sure of who is on the other side of the screen. This goes for anything you do on the internet or any information you put out there about yourself, you think it may be blocked up there is always a way to get around it!
